With quarantines and lockdowns imposed everywhere due to the pandemic, our summer vacation looked as bleak as a wasteland. Luckily, because of the existence of technology and some people’s sheer ingenuity coupled with extreme boredom, different things have been born to keep ourselves occupied during the 2-month-long quarantine.
Dalgona Coffee
Only a week into the quarantine, this foamy coffee drink originating from South Korea got traction on TikTok (and further on other social media sites) due to its aesthetically pleasing look and presentation. With just 4 ingredients—hot water, sugar, instant coffee, and milk—this drink easily became the hottest food trend during the early days of the quarantines.
Bread Baking
Following the culinary footsteps of Dalgona coffee is bread baking. Banana bread, sourdough bread, pandesal, white bread—you name it, most of us might have done it! In fact, there are so many that baking goods aisles in grocery stores look like they’ve been hit by a tornado! The bread craze is real during the quarantine.
Online Parties
From Netflix parties and Zoom meetings to virtual hangouts and online chikahans, people have proven that social distancing does not equal social isolation. Through different means such as those mentioned above, the quarantine has had people connected more than ever, making up for the lack of physical touch (but we definitely miss hugs already!)
Bored in the House, In the House Bored
Chances are you sang that title in your head. This song exploded on TikTok during the quarantine, and has been appearing on people’s feeds across multiple platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram even up until today! Guess people truly are “bored in the house and in the house bored”.
Workout Routines
With millions of views on YouTube, Chloe Ting and Emi Wong have been gathering the world by storm through their workout videos that might help you get your summer bod ready! But remember, while exercising is good for you, it is important that you maintain a healthy, active lifestyle and a nutritious, balanced diet for you to be truly fit and strong.
We still have a long way to go before the quarantine ends and our common problem dissipates and these trends can only do so much to occupy ourselves. Even then, there is joy in the little things. Let these quaranthings help us work our way through this overwhelming darkness, and give us hope that in time, we will overcome.
