Imagine what our lives would be like during this quarantine without the internet. Even after quarantine, it is deemed that this whole social distancing will still go on. For the time being, we have to rely on technology for almost everything. However, all good things also come with its negative sides.
Socialization
By using social media as our main platform for socializing, we no longer have to hear or tell “I’m OTW” kind of lies. No more waking up early just to allot time for the everyday heavy traffic. Without a doubt, social networking sites are the key to practicing social distancing without compromising our social lives but it just lacks that certain “feeling” of being face-to-face with friends and loved ones. It’s like being on an LDR with everyone, family, friends, classmates, office mates but at least there is still communication with everyone.
Accessibility
Mostly everyone in this day and age has gadgets and WiFi connection. This makes information available to everyone since it is just one tap away. However, this also makes us more susceptible to fake news. We get to continue with our lives because of the advancements of technology. Businesses are still running as usual. We still get to hear mass every day and we are able to watch our favorite series just on our phones.
We must also take note that not everyone has the luxury to afford the accessibility of technology. There will be people who will be left out, thus, may this not be a reason to exploit someone.
Online Classes
Thanks to the internet, video conferences, and schoology, our studies will not be that much affected. Some schools who still have classes up to now practice this type of learning already. However, we cannot simply rely on the internet connection since it can be sometimes inconsistent. Not everyone has the ability to own a WiFi-ready gadget or a modem. Not everyone experiences the same strength of signal and same speed.
In addition, it will be hard not only for the students but also for teachers. Some of us prefer learning in a physical classroom and reading hardcopies of textbooks since not everyone has the same learning style. Online classes might be a reason to have less motivation to do good. Classrooms are built that way for a reason which is to be conducive for learning. Nevertheless, it is an advantage to those who prefer doing things at the comfort of their bedrooms.
Inevitably, humans have evolved several times for the past million years just to adapt to certain changes. Now, we are faced with a challenge that puts our lifestyles at stake. It is up to us how we are going to face these. Despite all the consecutive sudden turn of events this 2020, may we remain steadfast and may each day become a step closer to better days ahead.
