The quarantine has affected us in different ways but if one thing is universal to our experience is it warped our sense of time, some days have been blurred together, minutes seem like eternities and hours fly by fast. This includes affecting our sleep schedule in very weird ways, like eating brunch and fixing up a meal at 3 AM. The quarantine has also turned some of us into nocturnal creatures, sleeping in the day and doing all sorts of random stuff in the wee hours of the night.
With online classes nearing we have to reset our body clocks, so here are ways to fix your sleep schedule.
- Sleep earlier!
- It’s the most effective way of fixing your body clock. Sleeping earlier will make you wake up earlier and start your day normally.
- Get to a comfortable position and dim the lights in your room to help you fall asleep faster
- Blink your eyes fast for 20 seconds and it might help you feel sleepy.
- Huwag mo na siya pagpuyatan, ‘di mo siya jowa
- Avoid distractions such as your gadgets at night.
- Our body clocks are very sensitive to light and by using our phones, it causes the pineal gland to produce less melatonin (a hormone that controls the sleep cycle) therefore making you feel less sleepy
- If you do use your phone, try turning on the Night Shift setting or the Blue-Light Filter
- Late night talks might be fun, but having proper amount of sleep is better.
- Avoid napping in the afternoon
- Even if you feel sleepy try to resist the urge, as napping might interfere with going to sleep at night
- Create a routine
- The reason why our sleep schedule is messed up is that our daily routine has been completely disrupted
- Try waking up at the same time every day and sleeping at the same time every night
- Stick to the routine
- Your body clock won’t fix itself in a matter of days, it takes time to fix it
- Commit to your routine, tama na landi commit ka naman… sa routine mo.
