Selfless: Men and Women for Others

To fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not seek for rest, to labor and not to ask for any reward— that was what you exactly did. In times where fear and panic devoured everyone, you chose to carry on with what you had sworn to with passion, which is to make people still hold on to hope and survival.

As you were fulfilling your duty, some of you experienced an unreciprocated trust from people whom you had attempted to pull out of Grim Reaper’s grasp. You trusted them but in the end, they have brought with them an enemy that cannot be seen. Some patients chose not to disclose their health conditions and travel histories, which was like fighting an invisible enemy in the dark, while some of you found yourselves in this situation because of lack of PPEs. It was like going to a battle without armor. But even then, your passion and desire to serve and help people never wavered.

We hope you know that you will be remembered not just as a victim of COVID-19 but also as heroes who have fought an unfair fight given the circumstances. The sacrifice and service you offered before and during the pandemic will always be remembered. You have made a change in this world ever since the day you decided to be of service to others.

Because of you and your tireless efforts, we have believed that we are more than any disease out there. We have always known that everyone has a chance to live. When there was no hope, you became a beacon of light that gave us hope. You were not just there to provide a cure but also care. You were always with us whenever we were in pain. We regret and apologize for not being able to do the same.

As the curtains close, deep in our hearts, we are feeling all kinds of emotions. We are scared to know that we have lost a frontliner in this fight against an invisible enemy. We are grateful as we recall all the things you have done for us. We are wretched since everyone has lost a confidante, a mentor, an inspiration, a friend, a family, and a loved one.

You touched several hearts of people and made an impact on their lives. You lived the life of a hero and we will always look up to you and be grateful for all your efforts. We salute all the deceased doctors, nurses, medical professionals, health care providers, and frontliners. May you rest in peace.
