Yan ang Tama, Yan ang Muntinlupa! Muntinlupa City has proved that they set the bar high when it comes to battling the pandemic and providing public service. Under the leadership of Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, Muntinlupeños are truly in great hands during this pandemic.
Recently, the Department of Health and World Health Organization recognized and commended the city’s efforts and response against COVID-19. The city has the highest recovery rate in NCR which is 56.86%. This proves that the implementation of targeted mass testing, contact tracing, and isolation were effective in preventing the number of cases from increasing. In their targeted mass testing, swabbing tests and rapid tests were made available for free for any resident showing symptoms of the disease.
Aside from this, the city government allowed the advance distribution of scholarships to students which was initially intended to be given from June to August. They are also giving out NutriPan, bread packed with Iron, Vitamin A, and Malunggay, to children to strengthen their immune system which is highly vital during these times. Disinfection of markets, schools, terminals, roads, and other public spaces are also ongoing every day.
In addition, they were among the LGUs that were quick to address the needs of their people. On March 20, 2020, just days after the declaration of the ECQ, they were already preparing food supplies for families that would last up to three or four months. “Three to four months po ang ating paghahanda, tuloy-tuloy po ang ating paghahanda,” Mayor Fresnedi stated in an interview posted on the city’s official FB page.
Despite all efforts done, Mayor Fresnedi said in an article published by Inquirer that the city government will still not be complacent and will impose stricter measures against COVID-19. He is showing everyone the true meaning of good governance and leadership which is to not settle for the bare minimum and to prioritize the people’s welfare over anything else. He is the type of leader that everyone needs, especially during these hard times.
