Marcelino “Marcy” Reyes Teodoro is the current mayor of Marikina City. His leadership and proactive measures to counter the spread of COVID-19 in his city has been lauded by citizens including people from other cities.
During the onset of the pandemic, Mayor Teodoro already announced that Marikina will open its own molecular testing center for COVID-19. After more than a month of waiting for accreditation from the Department of Health, Marikina’s testing facility is up and running with more than 6,000 tests already conducted as of today.
The DOH said that those returning to work in places under MECQ such as Marikina are not required to undergo a coronavirus test unless experiencing symptoms or exposed to a COVID-positive patient, however, Mayor Teodoro has ordered all employees of private companies before work resumption. All tricycle drivers in Marikina City will also undergo testing.
All those who tested positive in the rapid swab test will be placed under quarantine and are subject to a confirmatory test. If they turn out positive, they will be given due medical attention through isolation and supportive treatment to allow them to better recover.
Aside from this, Marikina City’s relief kit includes 5 kilos of rice, canned goods, instant coffee packs and a voucher for one free COVID-19 test per household.
Because of Mayor Teodoro’s leadership and the local government’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in their city, Marikina’s daily coronavirus cases have significantly dropped. According to data from the DOH and WHO, the city has an 8.32 deceleration rate on new COVID-19 cases.
