As the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 becomes effective, most of us are worried for everyone’s safety. Our usual daily activities and simply exercising our rights may become grounds for arrests. With that, we must know who to ask for help when our rights are infringed. Here are some of the groups of lawyers that may be able to help us not only for this specific matter but also for other lawsuit cases.

Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG)

Founded during the Marcos regime, the Free Legal Assistance Group represented those who were violated by martial law. Until now, it provides free legal assistance to Filipinos, especially the oppressed, underprivileged, and victims of injustices. Aside from this, the organization also often posts their statements regarding their stand  on national issues on their Facebook page which serves as a basis and eye-opener for everyone.

Other Government Agencies

Government Agencies, such as the Department of Labor and Employment and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, also offer free legal consultation and assistance. However, they only cater to cases that are related to their agency’s focus. Specifically, DOLE focuses on work-related cases while DSWD usually caters to women and children’s welfare issues.

We must always remember that we are entitled to uphold our rights and we are free to express and communicate our beliefs and opinions. May the things that are happening in our country become not a reason for us to live in fear and meekness. At the end of the day, this is our country and whatever happens to it will greatly affect us and the future generations.
