DaangDokyu starts its festival for Philippine Documentaries with the theme: Martial Law, Never Again.” with five free documentaries for Martial Law week.
The festival showcases Filipino made documentaries portraying the struggles and hardships the Filipino people have faced during the Marcos rule and Martial Law and the countless human rights violations that have been perpetrated by the current and past administrations.
The Martial Law-themed opener is “not just to remember the past but a statement for us in the present.” according to the organizers.
The documentaries to be showcased are Marcos: A Malignant Spirit (1986), Mendiola Massacre (1987), A Rustling of Leaves: Inside the Philippine Revolution (1988), Imelda (2003), Alunsina (2020).
One of the festival directors shared how these documentaries can be a lesson for the current generation to make sure that we learn from their mistakes and never let these atrocities happen again to us, Filipinos.
DaangDokyu’s Martial Law Special will be free for viewing from September 19 to September 21 11:59 PM. It then offers more documentary selections tackling various topics on the country’s environment and taboos on October 2 until November 5.
