Marikina River surpasses Ondoy water Level

Heavy rains by Typhoon Ulysses caused the Marikina River’s water level to 21.9 m at 9:37 AM, Thursday, November 12 — higher than the 21.5 m water level reached by Typhoon Ondoy in 2009.

It brought back painful memories for the Marikeños as Typhoon Ulysses mirrors the flooding incident of Typhoon Ondoy.

In an interview by Rappler, Mayor Marcy Teodoro said “Nakakatakot dahil parang Ondoy ang karanasan namin dito, dahil ‘yung Ondoy, ganito rin nangyari – habang natutulog ang lahat, biglang tumaas ang ilog”

Residents living near the Marikina River were called to evacuate in the early mornings of November 12,  in anticipation of massive flooding in the area.

However, despite the evacuation efforts of the local government, residents living in the vicinity still stayed and are now being evacuated because of the head-deep floods caused by the overflowing of the river.

Please call the Marikina rescue hotlines to be safely evacuated:
