Hi-Lites, the official student publication of the Ateneo Senior High School, is one with several Filipino artists across the nation in joining the “Tumindig” online campaign earlier, 21st of July 2021.

The online campaign was first started by satirical cartoonist Kevin Eric Raymundo, the artist behind Tarantadong Kalbo, last Sunday, July 17, with his digital drawing of “fist people” bowing down, while giving spotlight to one “fist person” who chose to stand up with dignity and stand out from the crowd.

Along with various artists who have dared to stand in solidarity with the movement, Hi-Lites has also made their own version of the “fist person”, designed by the Art and Layout department.

Hi-Lites’ illustration contains their blue trademark, along with a pen and pencil that symbolize journalism and art, drawn as “horns” which we use as our “weapons for righteous purposes,” as said by the editor.

The Hi-Lites Fist can also be seen wearing a cape because through the journalists of the organization, they become “heroes for and by the people in their own ways, not for self-interest and fame, but for the pure service and will to defend truth, justice, and freedom,” as explained by the editor.

Hi-Lites continues to fight for democracy by using their platforms to unceasingly defend press and academic freedom.

Artists who desire to participate in this online campaign may post their own version of Tarantadong Kalbo’s artwork with their own fist drawings under the hashtag “#Tumindig.”
