Several towns in Northern Luzon including 52 barangays in Cagayan are heavily affected by the flooding caused by the heavy rain brought by severe tropical storm Maring as of Tuesday, October 12, 2021.

At least one person was reported to have died due to drowning in the town of Claveria, Cagayan.

About 1,752 families or about 7,116 individuals have preemptively evacuated from their homes, as reported by the Cagayan’s provincial information office (PIO) last October 11, 8 PM. 

There have been ongoing operations by the Task Force Lingkod Cagayan, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Philippine National Police, particularly in Calaoagan Bassit in Gattaran, Buguey, and Sta. Teresita in Cagayan.

Due to the non-stop flooding, residents who are yet to be rescued were asked to move to higher grounds and locations while others were evacuated at a nearby church. 

Meanwhile, the La Union Provincial Disaster Risk and Reduction and Management Office has also placed the province under “red alert” due to Maring. 

Additionally, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) as of 6 AM today, a total of 1,638 individuals or about 478 families in three Luzon regions were heavily affected by Maring.

The mentioned affected residents were from Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa, and Cordillera Administrative Region in Luzon.

According to PAGASA, Maring is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday morning or afternoon.
