Leni Robredo thanks supporters in pasasalamat gathering
In her thanksgiving event held in the Ateneo de Manila University campus, presidential candidate Leni Robredo appealed to her supporters to accept the decision of the majority. This was after protests against the election results occurred inside the school. Later, she announced that the Angat Buhay Program will become a non-governmental organization, to be launched on July 1, 2022.
Marcos Jr. prepares to take office
Overseas, presidential frontrunner Bongbong Marcos Jr. continued to receive support from world leaders. After receiving welcoming messages from China, Australia, Japan, and the United States of America, the Embassy of Israel in Manila followed suit in congratulating Marcos and affirming their commitment to working with the Philippines.
In an event, the presumptive president also referred to his cousin, Martin Romualdez, as the next majority speaker after his reelection as Leyte’s 1st District Representative.
Meanwhile, senatorial frontrunner Robin Padilla announced that Atty. Salvador Panelo will serve as his “legislative consultant, adviser, and mentor.”
In other news, COMELEC has remained neutral on Outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte’s stand on abolishing the party-list system. Duterte earlier noted that the constitution is to blame and it must be amended. COMELEC will also begin investigating defective vote-counting machines this weekend. During the May 9 elections, the voting process was slowed down due to “malfunctioning VCMs and corrupted secure digital cards.”
