A miscalculated jump by defenders Sofia Harrison and Dom Randle and goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel 74 minutes and 24 seconds into the Philippines’ match against Thailand at the Asean Football Federation (AFF) proved costly, as they bowed down to the Thais, 0-1, earlier today, July 12.
The game’s only goal was a header by Kanyanat Chetthabutr, with the forward taking advantage of the Filipinas’ defensive miscue.
Earlier in the match, the Filipinas had two attempts to score, but tries by both Jessika Cowart in the first half and Katrina Guillou an hour into the game were stopped by goalkeeper Chotmanee Thongmongkol.
With this loss, the Filipinas finished the AFF’s elimination round with 12 points, only second to Thailand’s 13 in Group A.
Both the Philippines and Thailand are now waiting for their respective semi-finals opponents, as Myanmar and defending champion Vietnam are set to battle it out tomorrow to determine who tops Group B of the tournament.
Both semi-final matches are scheduled to be played on Friday, July 15.
