Carlos Edriel Yulo ended the Baku World Cup with double gold as he remained supreme in the men’s vault final at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Series, Sunday, March 12.
Yulo wrapped up his campaign in Baku, Azerbaijan, with another fireball performance after his victory in parallel bars on Saturday, March 11.
Yulo’s attempts were a handspring double front pike good for 15.033 and a Lopez vault netting 14.833, which gave an average of 14.933, helping the Filipino win the competition and overcome Great Britain’s Harry Hepworth, who settled for silver with 14.816 points.
The 23-year-old earned bronze in parallel bars in the opening event in Cottbus, Germany, before snagging a floor exercise gold, a parallel bars silver, and a vault bronze in Doha, Qatar.
The Baku meet revealed Yulo’s best performance out of his first three leagues in the World Cup series.
After his games in Azerbaijan, Yulo will travel to Cairo, Egypt, for the fourth leg of the World Cup, to be held from April 27 to 30.
This year’s World Cup series serves as a qualification tournament for the apparatus competitions in the 2023 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, held on September 30 to October 8.
