On Wednesday, September 11, the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand students crowded the second floor of the Formation Learning Center (FLC) to participate in STEM Connect organized by the STEM Council, with the theme Bridge to Tomorrow.
The onsite program was divided into two batches; the first batch was composed of the Grade 12 students, while the second batch was made up of the Grade 11 students.
Organized yearly, this week-long event aims to help STEM students get to know each other and foster class collaboration by providing activities and challenges for the STEM sections.
Bridging relationships
This year, STEM Connect consisted of activities such as the class chant and cheer challenge, human bingo, egg drop for juniors, and focus string for seniors to bridge relationships and establish a strong foundation for class dynamics.
āRecognizing the changes in senior classes and the new environment for juniors, we created activities that will challenge all of the students in a class to work together and instill a sense of class and strand pride as they work their way towards a tomorrow they all look forward to,ā STEM Chairperson Ayezza Prado said.
āMoreover, it also encourages interaction between students of different sections. Ultimately, STEM Connect aims to connect the students together as they bridge their way to a tomorrow that brings them together,ā she concluded.
Winning classes
After the asynchronous and onsite activities, the classes of 11-Owen and 12-Pro won first place in their respective batches.
āSTEM Connect was something that I was a bit hesitant to go because I’m not really sure if it was worth it. But as soon as I came into the event, I felt really inspired, and I feel kind of competitive, as I also not just want to connect with other sections, but I also want to also represent my own section and be able to show what we can do,ā Daniel Mallari from 12-Pro shared.
āWhen we won, it felt really good, as we just felt how solid, or how our solidarity as a class felt throughout that time, and we felt really proud as a class,ā he ended.
