Who Blue Eagles are Called to be

An eagle soars high — steady in flight, eyes sharp for what helps it thrive — carrying instinct and strength. While a Blue Eagle carries that same strength and clarity in its path, it also bears the values formed by Jesuit tradition and Ignatian principles. These are lived out with intention every day at the Ateneo Senior High School (ASHS). And as a Blue Eagle holds these close to heart, they grow not only as catalysts of change, but also as persons-for-and-with-others.

Dear juniors, this is who you are called to become.

The 5 Cs

As part of its mission, the ASHS molds individuals who embody Christ-centeredness, competence, conLscience, compassion, and commitment — individuals who can navigate a complex world with discernment, creativity, and courage.

Christ-centeredness. You will be reminded to seek God in all things. Through school-wide Eucharistic celebrations, class retreats, and regular prayer, Ateneans are encouraged to reflect on their faith and allow it to guide their thoughts and actions. In moments of confusion or pressure, this faith gives you a place to return to.

Compassion. You will be taught to care for others, especially the poor and disadvantaged. Through weekly Examens and outreach programs like Tulong Dunong and the Christian Service and Involvement Program (CSIP), we are invited to act with empathy and deep understanding. After all, your stay in the ASHS is long enough to slow down and reach beyond yourself.

Conscience. You will be urged to make choices rooted in moral integrity. Weekly classroom formation sessions and commemorations like the Martial Law discussions invite us to engage with the real world through the lens of truth, justice, and responsibility. So when life sets a challenge, always choose what’s right — not what is easy.

Competence. You will be expected to strive for excellence in both academic and personal pursuits. The strand-based curriculum and dedicated faculty of ASHS equip us with the skills and knowledge to grow with intention and passion. But know this, juniors: grow with excellence, not perfection.

Commitment. You will be urged to show up with purpose and consistency. Through the many organizations, committees, and sports clubs in ASHS, we are given opportunities to lead and contribute meaningfully with dedication and heart. When burnout comes, pause, heal, and stay.

As we take flight

As the day ends for an Atenean, these values are held onto. This grip is rooted in the challenge of Magis — to be more. Not to outshine others, but to become the best you are capable of being. You’ll soon find yourself drawn to a harder and deeper path of service — filling roles, staying after class longer, or standing beside the margins.

Dear juniors, this is who you are called to become.

Blue Eagles aren’t called to be the greatest — they’re called to reflect the Creator through courage, excellence, and faith. To see God in all things, and to pursue every passion Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam — all for the greater glory of God.
