Passenger volume has surged in major transport terminals across Metro Manila on Friday, January 2, as travelers return from the provinces following the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) experienced heavy outbound traffic before the holidays as families left the capital.
At present, the terminal remains busy with commuters heading back to Metro Manila.
PITX officials also reported that the number of passengers has already spiked days before Christmas, prompting expectations of sustained terminal activity through the first week of January.
In response, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said it has prepared for the post-holiday surge by coordinating with bus operators and placing personnel on standby to manage increased demand.
The LTFRB also noted that road transport terminals nationwide are expected to experience a similar rise in passengers as the holiday season concludes.
Moreover, starting Saturday, January 3, the passenger volume is projected to peak as most holiday leaves and school breaks officially end.
On terminal operations, PITX management emphasized continued monitoring of passenger flow to ensure orderly movement amid the increased volume of returning passengers.
PITX Corporate Affairs Director Jason Salvador said, “Abala pa rin ang PITX sa pagtitiyak na maayos, ligtas, at komportable ang biyahe ng mga pasahero ngayong patapos na ang holiday season.”
Transport authorities also advised commuters to anticipate crowded terminals and possible delays as the post-holiday travel rush continues into early January.
