As the sea of vibrant colors flows through the walls of the institution that we call home, ASHS brings this year’s One Big Pride with the theme “Tahanan sa Tanan.” This celebration, however, not only transforms the school into a mosaic of color but also echoes just how much it becomes our home. The glitz and glamour of drag culture has grown increasingly popular in the Philippines, with numerous drag bars, queer media and LBGTQIA+ Filipino artists now being brought into the spotlight — allowing audiences to bask in a multitude of stories inspiring a new generation of queer youth. However, underneath this vibrant exterior lies a long-winding history revealing generations of queer challanges and triumphs, all of which culminating into the symbol that drag stands for today.

The Different Shades of the Rainbow

Inside the umbrella of the LGBTQIA+ community is a world full of diverse individuals, each with their own way of self expression and sexuality. While many of us are still trying to establish a foothold of our identity, our journey of self-discovery will get easier knowing that there are different words and labels that seek to understand what we feel — plus, it wouldn’t hurt knowing a few words to stop us from accidentally hurting others.
