As a new semester begins, the Samahan ng mga Iskolar na Naglilingkod at Gumagabay (SINAG) held a care session to help scholars bond last Wednesday, January 31, at the second floor of the Ateneo Senior High School (ASHS) Formation Learning Center.

The care session followed the central theme of “Ulayaw,” which means “intimate companionship.”

The activities, which composed of pair tasks and an individual reflective session, were focused on providing scholars an avenue to create and strengthen connections with others.

“I believe that SINAG was able to provide an avenue for the scholar participants to form meaningful connections and recharge after the hurdles that they went through after the first semester and the first couple weeks of the second semester,” stated Angeline Uy, SINAG’s Organization Head, when discussing the success of “Ulayaw.”

Finding SUNdigan in the Scholar Community

Uy regarded the activity, “SUNdigan,” as the program’s portion that encapsulated the focus of “Ulayaw.” “SUNdigan” was a salo-salo and karaoke segment where participants were encouraged to sing.

“Regardless of what the volunteers sang, no matter how serious or unexpected, everyone was encouraged to join and support their fellow participants,” she said.

“I think [SUNdigan] also brought about this vibrant and special character unique to the scholar community that I have yet to see in others,” Uy added.

Future Care Sessions

As student formation is a continuous process, SINAG’s care sessions were designed to build on the projects they previously did.

“During the early start of the academic year, a welcoming party, ‘Aguhon,’ was held to welcome juniors and ‘Ulayaw’ is a continuation of that. It builds on the growing comfort of our juniors and the developed experiences of our seniors to share,” Uy explained.

Uy said that plans and discussions have already begun for the creation of the succeeding projects. Currently, SINAG is formulating an event that would improve the integration of the scholar community in different advocacies.
