A’s, B’s, and C’s may just be letters for many, but in the Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (ASHS), this set of letters gain a whole new meaning—for us Ateneans, these are indicators of our efforts and perseverance in our studies as well as deciding factors for our futures. The time has come yet again for the moment of truth, where the fruits of the students’ months of hard work, sleepless nights, and endless cups of coffee, finally ripen for a harvest.

The Boiling Point: EDSA People Power Revolution
Throughout the history of our country, it’s not often that you see or witness democracy triumph over injustice—especially injustice that affects the whole country. A significant and remarkable example of this would be the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, a revolution not only months, nor years, but decades in the making. Akin to a boiling pot, the Filipinos’ passions and thirsts for justice were brought to a roaring boil—and a resounding eruption—as the flames of tyranny, abuse, and hardship that strangled our countrymen during Ferdinand Marcos’ administration ignited the spirits of the Filipinos. The toppling of a dictator is no easy feat—only the perseverance of Filipinos proved it to be possible.

You would usually encounter this specific greeting during the month of February—often before the day of love, Valentine’s Day. You may even recall another greeting, “Gōng xǐ fā cái!”, that is used interchangeably with the greeting above. Aside from hearing these phrases, your eyes would be bombarded with the color red—from the tapestries hanging around your local shopping malls, to the paper lanterns that illuminate the surroundings with an oriental touch, to—probably one of your favorites—the ang paos that (hopefully) contain crisp blue or yellow bills. Branded as Elesina, the return of the Ateneo Senior High School (ASHS) fair from its pandemic hiatus brings about a new set of attractions, ranging from new rides such as the Velocity Swing, down to the activities that feature a uniquely-student touch courtesy of various ASHS organizations—many of whom have planned booths in preparation for Elesina. Maraming Atenista ang kasalukuyang nakakatikim ng makulay at maunlad na “org life” sa Ateneo de Manila Senior High School. Mula SHOrSem hanggang recruitment week, ilista mo na ang mga senior na nagpupursiging palamutihan ang kanilang booth ng mga dekorasyong aagaw sa atensyon ng mga junior. Kaya huwag kalilimutang pagalain ang tingin para hindi makaligtaan ang kanilang mga gimik na hihimok sa’yong sumali sa kanilang organisasyon. Bagamat mayroong humigit kumulang 50 na mga org sa ASHS, patuloy pa rin itong nadadagdagan o ‘di kaya naman ay may nanunumbalik—katulad na lamang ng Youth For Christ (YFC) na muling binuhay ngayong taon ng core officers nito.
